Privacy policy
Version 1.0 · Effective
This policy explains what information MedicareScout uses, what happens to it, and the choices you have.
MedicareScout is new, and some features in this policy are still being built. This policy covers each one as it goes live. We will update this page before any feature handles your information in a new way.
Who we are
MedicareScout is run by Eland Consulting, a Kansas limited liability company. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” mean Eland Consulting.
Eland Consulting9335 Tomashaw LnLenexa, KS 66219Email: dave.eland@elandagile.comThe short version
- You don’t need an account to use MedicareScout.
- Your check-up runs in your web browser, on your own device.
- We don’t receive or store your drug list, your pharmacy, or your priorities.
- Doctor searches pass through our server to the federal government’s public directory of health care providers. We don’t store them.
- We use your ZIP code to load the plan list for your county.
- We collect your email address only if you sign up for updates.
- We use no advertising trackers. We don’t sell or share your personal information. We don’t sell insurance.
What happens to each piece of information
| Information | What happens to it |
|---|---|
| Your ZIP code and county | Your browser uses them to ask for the plan list for your county. The file it asks for shows the first three digits of your ZIP code and your county. Our hosting company keeps security logs of these file requests and your internet address. We don’t use those logs to track you. |
| Your answers about your situation, such as your birth month and year if you are new to Medicare | They stay on your device, in your browser tab, and are cleared when you close the tab. They are never sent to us. |
| Your drugs, pharmacy, priorities, and current plan | They stay on your device, in your browser tab, and are cleared when you close the tab. They are never sent to us. |
| Doctor searches | The name and city you type go to our server. Our server passes them to the federal government’s public directory of health care providers to find matches. We don’t log or keep what you type. |
| Doctors you choose | They stay on your device, in your browser tab, and are cleared when you close the tab. They are never sent to us. |
| Your saved file and private link | They stay with you. A saved file is kept only where you save it. A private link holds your check-up in the part after the # sign. Web browsers never send that part to any website, including ours. Anyone you give the link to can see your check-up. |
| Your email address, only if you sign up | It is sent from a separate sign-up form that holds nothing from your check-up. We store it in our email list, apart from your check-up, and use it only for the updates you chose. When you unsubscribe, we delete it within 30 days. |
| Visit counts | We count which steps people finish and which buttons they click. We use no cookies, and the counts include nothing you enter. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we don’t count your visit at all. |
| Error reports | If something breaks, your browser may send us technical details, such as an error code and the type of browser. These reports never include what you entered. We keep them for 30 days. |
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell or share your personal information.
- We don’t use advertising trackers, ad pixels, or tools that record your visit.
- We don’t use your information for insurance sales or sales calls.
- Our visit counts never include your ZIP code, county, drug names, pharmacy, doctors, the plans you look at, anything you type, or your name.
Cookies and browser storage
We don’t use tracking cookies.
Your browser keeps your progress in its session storage while you work, so a page refresh doesn’t lose it. Session storage is cleared when you close the tab. Choosing “Start over” clears it right away.
If we later offer a way to save a check-up on your device, it will ask your permission first and include a button to delete it.
Companies that help us run MedicareScout
- Vercel hosts the website and provides our visit counts.
- Neon stores our email list.
- Resend sends our emails.
Each company handles information only to provide its service to us, under a data processing agreement. We will add any new company to this list before it receives information.
Washington Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy
Washington’s My Health My Data Act gives Washington residents rights over their consumer health data. This section is our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy. We follow it for everyone who uses MedicareScout, wherever they live.
Health data we collect and why
We built MedicareScout so that most health information never reaches us. Your drug list, pharmacy, chosen doctors, priorities, and answers about your situation stay on your device.
Only this information could reach our servers and could count as consumer health data:
- Doctor search terms (the name and city you type). We use them only to find the doctor you are looking for. We pass them on and don’t keep them.
- The plan files your browser asks for, which show part of your ZIP code and your county. We use them only to show plans where you live.
- Your email address, if you sign up. We use it only to send the updates you chose. We keep it apart from your check-up and never connect it to your drugs, doctors, or ZIP code.
Where this data comes from
All of it comes from you, when you use MedicareScout.
Who we share it with
We share it only with the companies that help us run MedicareScout, listed above, so they can provide their service to us. Doctor search terms also go to the federal government’s public directory of health care providers, only to look up the doctor you asked about. No other company in our family of businesses receives this data. We never sell consumer health data.
Your rights
If you live in Washington, you can:
- ask whether we have your consumer health data, and get a copy of it;
- get a list of the companies we shared it with, and how to reach them;
- ask us to delete it;
- withdraw your consent, for example by unsubscribing from our emails.
To use these rights, email us at dave.eland@elandagile.com. We will answer within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why. We won’t charge you or treat you differently for using your rights.
If we turn down your request
You can appeal by replying to our answer, or by emailing us with “Appeal” in the subject line. We will answer your appeal within 45 days.
If you still disagree, you can contact the Washington State Attorney General at www.atg.wa.gov/file-complaint.
If there is a data breach
We keep very little information, but we still plan for problems. If a breach exposes your information, we will tell you and the Federal Trade Commission, as its Health Breach Notification Rule requires. We will also follow any state breach law that applies.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from our emails with one click in any email.
- Ask us to delete your email address.
- Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser to stop visit counts.
- Close your browser tab, or choose “Start over,” to clear your check-up.
- Contact us with any question about your information.
Children
MedicareScout is not meant for children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from them.
How we protect information
- Every page loads over an encrypted connection.
- Our pages don’t load code from other companies.
- Our server never writes what you type into its logs.
- Email addresses are encrypted in our email list, and only the people who run MedicareScout can reach it.
Changes to this policy
Each version of this policy shows its version number and the date it takes effect. If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page before the change takes effect. If you signed up for email, we will also tell you about major changes by email.
